Starting in 1997 Millets Maize Maze certainly made itself known with people visiting from far and wide to try out the UK's first and World Record Holding Maize Maze. With 3.73 miles of pathway and covering almost eight acres it took some visitors 4 hours to complete it! A maze cut into maize means that unfortunately it must be harvested at the end of the summer and the crop is fed to the cattle. However this does provide a perfect opportunity for us to create a new maze every year. So far we have had a Windmill (97) a Dragon (98) a Pirates Ship (99) a Woodland theme (2000) a Space Rocket (01) a Jungle theme (02) a Whale (03) a Dinosaur (04) Battle of Trafalgar (05) Around the world in 80 days (06) Magical Maze (07) Egyptian (08) Robot (09) Clown (10) Alice in Wonderland (11) an Olympic rowing boat (12) Cornley our maze mascot (13) Food (14) WWII (15) Majestic Maze (16) Seaside (17), Wild West (18), Fantasy Fun (19), Bees (21), Transport (22), Games (23) and Olympics (24).
The maize is planted in April to ensure it reaches it full height ready for the maze opening in July. Once we have designed the maze we cut the pathways and with plenty of sunshine and rain we cross our fingers that the maize reaches over 6ft tall in time for opening.
